In this fun song-and-dance-filled video, Barney takes kids on an adventure across the world as he uses his imagination to explore different cultures. Kids will be fascinated with the vast array of exciting activities that kids from different corners of the world use to have fun. From learning to dance a jig in Ireland and a traditional African dance in Kenya to sampling exotic foods, such as sushi in Japan, children will learn a great deal about different cultures and how being a good friend translates to all languages. Of course, Barney invites his dinosaur friends are along for the excursion, which will delight children already familiar with the big purple dinosaur.
Expect your child to be curious about these countries and customs after watching this DVD and perhaps try to extend the learning experience by incorporating bits of the culture into your daily activities. Consider trying a dinner themed to India or Japan to introduce your child to different foods or find some Irish or Brazilian music to play in the background. Any exposure to a different culture is a great experience for a young child and they will more than likely have a blast trying new games, music and foods.
When I showed this video to Emily, the girl I nanny for, she loved the idea of using her imagination to travel by a magical purple train to far-off lands. She thought the fancy costumes of Carnival in Rio de Janeiro were wonderful and, ever the aspiring fashionista, thought that the Irish dresses would "be cute on me!"
