Dog's Colorful Day: A Messy Story about Colors and Counting
by Emma Dodd

Dog starts off the day with one black spot on his ear. But it seems that wherever he goes, he runs, rolls, and trots right into colors. As he wanders around town, Dog collects spots made of red jam, blue paint, pink ice cream, and more. When he finally arrives back home, Dog has ten different colored spots. And then it's bath time for this colorful canine, who makes learning colors and numbers easy, messy, and fun.

This appealing book is one that you and your little one will both enjoy. The bright, funny illustrations will make you fall in love with the main character, a dog that gets messier and messier as his day progresses. There are a lot of great educational elements packed into the book's few pages. From colors to numbers to body parts to food, the story incorporates a multitude of words that will build your child's vocabulary.

The friendly dog hero of the book will draw in and hold on to your child’s attention. The large size of the drawings will also encourage you to make the book interactive by pointing at different objects within the pictures. This will help your child make connections and learn to identify common things that are part of their world.

My niece Audrey loves this book almost as much as she loves her dog, Lucy. I like to read this story to Audrey, and she always invites Lucy up onto the couch to join in the story. She really relates to the story, and at the end always tells Lucy that she, like the dog in the story, needs a bath! The book is a fun, educational, and messy treat that your kids will want to read over and over again.
