This Newberry Award winner is a favorite among kids and adults alike. The book contains five short stories that follow the adventures of best friends, Frog and Toad. Each story is infused with a sense of humor and a clear feeling of warmth between the characters. The green and brown illustrations are as unique as they are lovely, and skillfully brings the plot of each story alive.

Even though there is quite a bit of text in each story, the large font makes reading manageable. As your child begins to recognize words, he or she will want to join in and read with you.

There is a picture on my mom's desk of me reading this book with my dad when I was very young. Reading it years later with my nephew Michael really made me appreciate the brilliance of the book. Michael and I had a good chuckle over the story where Frog and Toad were out walking, saw a snake, and the snake said to them, "Hello, Lunch." Now whenever we're eating together, Michael and I always say "hello" to our lunch before we dig in.
