Does your little one get excited when they hear an airplane fly overhead? If so, they are the perfect reader or listener for I Love Planes! A young boy narrates, telling readers about all the different types of planes he loves - everything from jets, to blimps, to hot air balloons. He even loves paper airplanes! The book begins and ends with the same sentence, going full circle, full of repetition and rhymes. The simple cartoon drawings are non-cluttered and focused around the plane on each page. High contrast primary colors keep the pages bright and interesting.
Your child may recognize some of the activities the main character engages in, like playing outside and swinging, as well as many activities your little one can look forward to doing in the future, like hiking or flying in a plane. As your child gets older and shows more interest in all the types of planes, you can go over the inside covers (front and back) which tell the name of each type of plane seen in the book and a few extra facts about them; "Helicopters, like dragonflies, can fly up, down, or backwards. Sometimes they just hover." Even if they are not yet interested in the planes, your child will recognize the birds, whale, dolphins, clouds, and stars in the background.
My two-year-old friend, Kyle, loved this book since he gets excited every time he sees a plane in the sky, or rushes to the window if he heard one overhead. He has never seen a hot air balloon in real life, so I'm not sure he understood that page, but he enjoyed all the colors and shapes. Kyle brings this book out every time someone is over and asks them to read it to him, since his parents have read it so many times they have it memorized forward and backward!
