Does any child like to go shopping? Not Llama Llama. But Mama can't leave Llama at home, so off they go to Shop-O-Rama. Lots of aisles. Long lines. Mama is too busy to notice that Llama Llama is getting m-a-d. And before he knows it, he's having a full-out tantrum. Mama quickly calms him down, but she also realizes that they need to make shopping more fun for both of them.
Anne Dewdney teaches children the benefits of patience in Llama Llama Mad at Mama. The large hardcover book has a reinforced binding and large printed words that rhyme in a steady cadence - perfect for little ones beginning to read. Large brightly colored pictures show Llama and Mama Llama doing many daily activities that will be familiar to your child, such as riding in a car seat, grocery shopping, and trying on new clothes.
If your child is ready to sound out words, you can begin with the colored words in bold on each page. These are marked as great beginning reading words. You can also talk about the moral in the story once you've read it all the way through, relating it to a time when your child was impatient like Llama. You can reiterate how much faster and easier the trip to the store was once Llama decided to be patient and help his Mama.
My three-year-old friend Taylor decided to bring this book with her to the grocery store one day. She sat in the cart and looked through the pages while her mom grocery shopped. Taylor then informed her mom that she won't get bored or mad like Llama, but she would like still a treat at the end of the shopping trip.

When I saw Little One Books had the Llama Llama books my search ended right there. My 4 year-old is so into Llama Llama now, he even has the plush Llama Llama in red pajamas. So when I saw this book, it was a no brainer. We have read this book everyday since we received it. The story is about Llama not wanting to go to the store with his Mama. He would much rather sit and play then go into a SuperCenter Store and stay there for hours while his Mama tries clothes on him, navigates the crowds and the sales and finally he has a melt down. Mama comes to the rescue and explains that she does not want to be doing all the shopping too, but if they do it together, they can get it done and have a treat. Llama ends up helping his Mama and they get their treat in the end. Of course Llama Llama loves his Mama.
