For almost 70 years, Curious George has entertained children with his mischievous monkey hijinks. This special collector's edition of the original stories is a wonderful addition to any child's library. With seven adventures neatly separated into chapters, this anthology will easily hold the attention of most children. Kids can't seem to get enough of the lovable monkey and the trouble that seems to be magnetically-drawn to him. The text is the perfect mix of descriptive yet simple and the stories are filled with easily recognizable childhood activities, such as visiting a zoo or riding a bike.
After reading one of the stories, your child will be as curious as George to find out what the monkey's next adventure will be. As George is known for failing to follow directions and listen to the Man with the Yellow Hat, which leads to much trouble before it is neatly resolved; this book fits great with reminding your children why it's important to follow the rules. One of the stories, "George Learns His ABCs," is a great teaching tool for kids to practice their alphabet. Each page features a capital and lowercase letter that has been transformed into a drawing of a word that begins with that letter - for example, A becomes an alligator's mouth. The drawings will amuse children and keep them wondering what the next letter will become while it also helps make connections between objects and letters.
After reading this collection over the course of several days and story times, Emily, the little girl I babysit, wanted more stories of Curious George! She loved the funny little monkey so much that we decided to make an arts-and-craft project out of a toilet paper roll so that she could have her very own George!
