White illustrations against a black background depict such objects as a horse, baby bottle, and sailboat.
Is your little one ready to learn some new shapes? White on Black is small with board pages, so your child can handle it easier. Each page uses simple solid white shapes against a black background. There are no boarders or other colors to distract from the straightforward lesson of learning shapes through reverse silhouettes. The shapes are familiar objects for most children, including a teddy bear, bottle, horse, boat, and duck, among others.
This is a great book to snuggle your little one onto your lap, and let them touch the pages while you point and name each object. They may be too young to repeat it back to you, but it's never too early to begin the learning process of identifying objects. The book can be read at any time and in any order.
I first looked through this book with my niece when she was 6 months old. Sometimes she would pay attention for all of the pages, and other days we would only do a few at a time. By the time she was a year, she was pointing at each picture and making noises, as though trying to say the words. She liked the duck and would always say, "Da!"
